At Pixelchimp Studios, we believe in the power of human connection and the undeniable magic of imagination and physical play. While our little troll may reside in a fantasy world, we live in the real one—AI is here, it will affect virtually every industry, and it isn’t going anywhere.
We’re building a world that requires substantial visual content (social media, pitch materials, lore exploration). We can’t afford $500-1,000 per illustration during the pre-funding phase—no independent creator can. AI lets us take a rough sketch of our little troll and bring him to life. Then his life gets us funded, and a great deal of those funds will go to real artists crafting real images—to character sculptors, prototype manufacturers, packaging printers, fulfillment truckers… and the list goes on.
I owned a successful design and marketing firm for 25 years and I often wonder if I would’ve even been able to start a business, much less make one a success had AI been in the arena—I honestly don’t know. Having said that, Troll in the Bowl has been bouncing around in my head since December 11th, 2012—and AI let him out—for which I am eternally grateful. That’s the good news, think of all the people—not just visual artists—but everybody that ever dreamed of creating something… a new product or a book, a toy, or… a Troll in the Bowl. Now we can.
We’ve used AI as a digital research assistant to help brainstorm lore, create visual comps, and to compile massive amounts of data into a usable format. But the soul of this troll belongs to the artistry and creativity of the human spirit. Every piece of final artwork— from book illustrations to rune cards and scroll designs—will be hand-rendered or thoughtfully re-created by human artists before a single product ships.
We’re using tomorrow’s technology to build a bridge back to a simpler time—when sticks became a noble knight’s sword and a towel the cloak of a beloved princess. But we will never replace the human hand, human judgment, or human imagination in our creative process.
We’ve spent decades in the creative world, and we know firsthand that while tools may change, craft still matters. The troll you'll hold? Hand-sculpted. The book you'll read? Hand-illustrated. The cards your kids will trade? Hand-drawn. Thanks for your support —me, and my beloved green son, truly appreciate it.
